Biography

Long Island’s Jeanette Berry brings an intense artistry to the music that can be felt in every track she releases. Her voice reaches into your soul and through her honesty, through her vulnerabilities she connects with her audience. The premier quality in her music cannot be overstated or ignored, Jazz, R&B, Soul, Berry can do it all. With multiple projects under her belt, the genre-bending artist has an entire discography of sounds and range of emotions to listen to. Between the Press picking up and covering Jeanette or the number of features she’s done over the course of her career, the world is catching on. As 2021 approaches, Berry has more music, content, and merchandise on the way, now’s the time to tune in to one of the generation’s most unique talents.

The minute you hear about Jeanette Berry’s family line, it was only a matter of time before Berry paved her own lane and a way for her own art. Jeanette’s mother is a singer, actress and dancer and her father is a multi-instrumentalist with both parents being educators. Right off the bat, Jeanette Berry was studying music and playing the cello from 4th to 9th Grade, completely immersed in the art form. “I never thought about doing anything else really,” Berry recalls, “It just felt like natural progression…..it went from wanting to be in musicals to singing jazz standards, to being in love with writing music and singing my own stuff.” Meanwhile, at home, Jeanette is listening to the entire gamut of music, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Sound of Blackness the list goes on and on. When you combine Jeanette’s family history, with her organic willingness to learn and more, it’s no surprise that the product she releases is nothing short of premier quality.

Jeanette Berry is an amalgamation of genre, Jazz, R&B, Funk, Neo-Soul and more, what makes Berry such a force is the consistency she brings to the table. Berry’s music transports you to another world, whether into hers, or deeper into your own. The Long Island artist channels an honesty and vulnerability that we don’t hear in music as much anymore. All of this can be heard and felt in Jeanette Berry’s debut EP “Solivagant”. The album pulls at your heartstrings as Berry bears her soul and pain with a live band providing the soundscape. “The project was inspired by a lost love. It felt urgent in a way,” Berry says. “The urgency was also in me wanting to express and share these more vulnerable stories because I needed to heal.” In just three tracks Berry grabs your soul and is guaranteed to evoke some version of emotion from the listener. Regardless of the lane or genre, Berry is in, the music will be honest and touch the listener the way the art form was meant to.

Jeanette Berry is a generational talent who has the ability to perform in multiple settings with various talents, standing out in her own way but always open to collaboration. When you press play on a track she wants you to feel. “I want them to recall a moment; to smile, to cry, to remember the touch of someone's hand or the first time they saw their true love, or remember how a bastard broke their heart.” This emotional connection has been seen by others including Soul Bounce, and Berry’s talent has been heard on collaborations with Homeboy Sandman, Grand Puba, Bishop Lament, and others. Berry is someone we’ll be listening to for eons to come with her genre-bending performance. As the journey into 2021 began, Berry says there will be new music and new merchandise, “I have consumed a lot,” she says, “and now it’s time to create.” That statement has been fulfilled with the release of her EP, Life Feels Better by the Water.
